What makes Deerfield endure is not any single donor or gift, but the collective power of a community that believes in what this school makes possible. Every contribution to this campaign, whether large or small, made today or planned for tomorrow, is an act of worthiness. Together, they seed the innovation and possibility that keeps Deerfield’s timeless formula alive and vital for every generation that follows.
The Deerfield Fund is the heartbeat of this campaign and the most immediate expression of what it means to be worthy together. Every year, tuition covers the majority of what it costs to educate a Deerfield student, but not all of it. The Deerfield Fund closes that gap, providing the unrestricted resources that give the school the freedom to respond, invest, and innovate in ways no restricted gift can. A gift of any size counts fully and completely, and what we are working toward is something rarer than any single large contribution: 50 percent participation from our alumni and the broadest possible engagement from our families. Every gift, at any level, affirms the same essential truth: that this community has always been Deerfield’s greatest asset.
An unrestricted endowment is the most powerful and flexible gift a donor can make. It provides Deerfield with a permanent source of income that the Head of School and Board of Trustees can direct to the areas of greatest need and opportunity, without restriction. It funds the unexpected, seeds the innovative, and ensures that Deerfield can respond to challenges and possibilities that no campaign document can fully anticipate. Every dollar in unrestricted endowment is a vote of confidence in the people who lead this school and a commitment to its long-term health and freedom.
Be Worthy is not a new idea. It is the oldest standard this school knows, the measure by which every generation of students, faculty, and supporters has been asked to account for itself. This campaign is an invitation to meet that standard once more, not for Deerfield’s sake alone, but for the sake of a world that depends—now more than ever—on engaged, generous, and courageous citizens worthy to lead it forward.
