Campaign Priorities

Main School Building

$60 Million

The centerpiece of the Academy’s first capital campaign, the Main School Building—known simply as the MSB—opened its doors in 1931 and quickly became the pride of campus.

For nearly a century, the MSB has stood at the center of Deerfield life. This iconic building has been the intellectual and academic heart of the school, the site of our first formal library, a welcoming place for generations of students and families, and a physical expression of our highest aspirations for Deerfield.

Through a thoughtful reimagining of the MSB, we will enhance and expand classroom spaces, create a more cohesive and supportive home for the Student Life Office, and bring together the History and Social Science Department on the upper two floors—strengthening both programmatic coherence and intellectual community.

Almost one hundred years after the construction of the Main School Building, we have an opportunity to renew and rededicate it to its original purpose as the Academy’s academic core, ensuring that a foundational vision for Deerfield continues to inspire all who teach and learn here.

Goals

  • To return the Main School Building to its origin as a primary space for teaching and learning;

  • To add additional classrooms and build collaborative work spaces on every floor;

  • To consolidate the History and Social Science Department on the upper two floors;

  • To modernize systems while maintaining the historical qualities of the building;

  • To ensure that the MSB continues to be a warm, welcoming place for prospective students, current families, alumni, and friends; and,

  • To honor Mr. Boyden’s extraordinary legacy in a meaningful and permanent way.
